The Night Before Christmas

By Katelyn, first grade

It was the night before Christmas, and everyone knew it. The kids in their beds thinking if they had been good or not and if they were going to get any coal. I heard a noise. I said to myself, "That's the cat." I heard it again. I looked out the window and there was a jolly old elf. He was yelling, "The damper is down! The damper is down!"

Then in a moment I knew what it was. It was jolly old St. Nick. I ran downstairs and opened the damper. He was down in a flash. I laughed when I saw him. He gave me a wink, so I had nothing to dread. He went to his work and said to me, "Now are you Ralph?" I told him I was very good. He said nothing else. But went right to his work.

When he was done he went back up the chimney, and drove out of sight, shouting "Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas to all!"
