Alaska’s libraries hold audio, visual, and written material about Alaska maritime disasters. Visit your local library or go online to see what’s available in holdings all over the state. Take these simple steps:

  1. Access SLED (State Library Electronic Doorway) at http://sled.alaska.edu/library.html .
  2. Click on the listing for ALNCat (the Alaska Library Network Catalog) to view the Basic Search window. Go to the Keyword field, and type in SHIPWRECKS ALASKA.

Archival Materials:

Records of Marine Casualties United States. 1913-1938. University of Alaska Anchorage. The 7-reel microfilm collection is an index to marine casualty reports for the years 1913 to 1938. The index consists of cards which give the home port of the vessel; date, location, nature, and cause of accident; number of lives lost and the names of the dead; value of the vessel and cargo; monetary damage; and the number of passengers and crew aboard. The cards are arranged chronologically by fiscal year and thereafter alphabetically by ship's name.
