The nonprofit partner of public lands in Alaska dedicated to sharing the natural and cultural heritage that enriches Alaska. The Association operates specialized bookstores at 35 parks, forests, refuges, other public land facilities and on the web. Proceeds support educational programs for public lands and fund new publications. Members receive discounts on purchases. In operation since 1959, the Association works to inspire stewardship of Alaska's public lands through education.

First and oldest used bookstore in Southeast Alaska -- since 1979. No catalogs but lots of personal service. The store does book and map searches and has a certified appraiser. "As a historian of Alaska, my heart is in Russian America and the Russian mapping of Alaska," says Longenbaugh, who is currently working on a book on mapping. The store's vision is to educate and provide accurate and well-written books, especially those on Alaska.

Old Harbor Books was formed in 1976 by a group of devoted book lovers, most of whom are still serving on the bookstore's board. Owner/managers Don Muller and Marylin Newman have worked at OHB since its inception. OHB stocks an inventory of over 16,000 titles along with a comprehensive selection of nautical charts and topographic maps for the region. We believe in actively participating in the community. We support public radio as well as all kinds of activities and get involved in community issues, even controversial ones, especially environmental concerns.
