Jackie Robinson helped white Americans know that segregation in
baseball wasn't right in the 1940s. He joined the Montreal Royals in
1945, and while he was playing he received hate mail, bad words, and
threats from angry white people. One time when he was playing, somebody
threw a black cat in to the baseball stadium and said, "Hey Jackie,
there's your cousin." That made him play harder, and that's how he was
able to join the Brooklyn Dodgers. After Jackie came the Dodgers won
six pennants and the World Series. Jackie's skill made most people
believe that black people can be in Major Leagues too.
