Nate McDonough's War Poem
By Nate McDonough
Genre: Poetry Level: High School 10-12
Category: Student Examples

War such a horrible thing
People dying
Body parts flying
Everywhere and about

People dream of glory
Yet they don't know of pain
All the suffering all the bloodshed
And most men won't return

The familes, and children
Home wondering
Stress buiding up
When will their loved ones return?

Vietnam the worst of them all
58,000 men on the wall
Young men and women
Yet communism still grows today

A war just ended in Iraq
With Saddam and his evil
No longer in control
Thanks to the soldiers who served

But the most interesting of them all
World War II in 1939
So many men died for their countries
And so many lessons learned

War has so many strong emotions
Yet one must understand the real nature of it
So deadly, so horrifying
One must understand the real truth
