Meghan Malone's War Poem
By Meghan Malone
Genre: Poetry Level: High School 10-12
Category: Student Examples

I have to write a war poem huh?
Tough
I mean what do I know of war?
I'm detached from the killing
It's a world away
My only connection is CNN
I've no family in the war
So what to write about?
When I don't feel
When I don't worry the next phone call will tell me a piece of my soul is
never coming home
When I don't have to wonder if the uniform coming to my door is going to tell me my brother is dead
When I don't worry if my family were the victims of a stray bomb from the
people who are "liberating" them
Tough
When I've never fought
Never lost
Never thought it would happen to me
I didn't worry my brothers would be drafted
That my mom would be sent away
So what do I have to write about?
