ASL-P87-1706 The Princess Sophia did not seem to be in danger of sinking after she struck Vanderbilt Reef, so boats waited nearby for the rough seas to calm before attempting rescue efforts. Unfortunately, the ship sank before anybody was able to reach her, killing all 353 people on board. Here is the Princess Sophia at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 25, 1918, six hours before she sank.
