Weeks Ball Field in Fairbanks served as the Black Squadron’s airstrip
in September 1920. The bleachers were filled with bystanders witnessing
the historic return of the biplanes that had aerially linked the United
States
with its remote territory. By 1923, the airstrip/ball park known
as Weeks Field saw regular aviation service. Wrote Noel Wien, “I had
the pleasure of flying twenty-nine years from this airport before it
was closed to progress of City of Fairbanks.” In the 1970s the property
became the site of the Noel Wien Library (Fairbanks North Star Borough
Public Library). Anchorage Museum of History and Art, Library and
Archives.
