There were 500 passengers and crewmembers aboard the SS Yukon when she ran aground near Seward. Unfortunately, 11 were lost when the surf ripped away most of her stern. Here, frightened passengers are being assisted onto the U.S. Navy rescue vessel. Archives, Seward Community Library.
