Another image in a photo album from Wales, ca. 1905, records the culmination of a successful hunt. Photo notes state: "All the village hurries out to the edge of the shore ice to help haul the whale's carcass onto the shore ice. Two birds smothered in seal fat are suspended on poles over the body to be a forfeit for the lives of the two butchers to the evil spirits." Archives, University of Alaska Fairbanks.
