In 1905, Col. Wilds P. Richardson, president of the Alaska Road Commission, wrote the Secretary of the Army urging him to station a company of engineer troops at Valdez to work on the Fairbanks-Valdez Trail. Here, members of the Alaska Road Commission were photographed on Valdez Dike. They include Col. W.P. Richardson with Lt. L.A. Kunzig and Lt. L.E. Edgerton.
