My Home Place
By Sarah Rector
Genre: Non-fiction Level: Elementary K-3
Year: 2001 Category: UAA/ADN Creative Writing Contest

It's summer vacation and I'm very excited. It is almost my birthday. I get to spend time with my friend. One special friend is Kelsea. Kelsea is nice and funny. She likes wearing choker necklaces like me. We went across my street to the treasure cache store that Mr. Elmer owns by my house in the car lot. We are playing tag. While we were playing tag we find a piece of a plate, a pink bottle, a piece of mirror, and ripped page from a book. Kelsea says, "Let's make up a story about this stuff." I say sure. We pretend that we hear, "Goodness gracious, it's hot out here." And, "Dillon, get in here right now! If I have to call you one more time..." And the sound of beef frying, "Pop! ZZZ! Pop!" in a black skillet. "Mom, Dillon's pinching me again," the girl whines. She has long hair and brown and peach skin. The boy has short black hair and apricot skin. Mom says, "Dillon go to sleep. Brittany you too."

Suddenly we hear Elmer say, "Hi Sarah." Then we hear my mom say, "Sarah and Kelsea, come in for dinner. We are having beef."

The End
