Alec's Important Thing
By Alec
Genre: Non-fiction Level: Elementary 4-6
Category: Student Examples

Alec?s blanketMy baby blanket is almost forty years old and it is full of holes. It was originally made for my mother by my grandmother. My mom had a baby blanket of her own but it was nothing but rags and tatters so my grandma made her a new one. When she was finished with the blanket and it was given to my mom, my mom didn't want it because she had her own blanket. Despite her bad feelings towards the blanket, my mom saved it. The blanket was given to me a couple days after I was brought home from the hospital. I slept with the blanket until I was around five or so. After that, I started leaving it in my pillowcase to protect it. When I matured enough to realize that I should try to preserve what was left of it, I put it in a plastic bag and put the plastic bag in a safe place. To this day I still have my baby blanket, but it is in bad condition. My mom is now thirty-five and she still has her blanket, and my grandma who made what is now my blanket is suffering from Alzheimer's.
