| The last day of school was special to me, not because of the three months of vacation following it, but because it was sixth grade graduation. I was happy but sad at the same time. I was happy because I was going to leave my elementary school and sad because I would be leaving my friends.
The ceremony took place in the gymnasium. All the sixth graders sat according to their classes. First, the principal gave a speech about how all the sixth graders worked their way up from kindergarten and how we were going to be the future leaders of the world. After that, there was an award ceremony for "Outstanding Academic Excellence." You get this award if you got 3.0 or higher on your report card for every year you've been in elementary school. I was surprised when I got one because I had failed math.
Finally, we were given our certificates. When our names were called we went up to the stage and received our certificates and shook hands with the principal. I heard my name called from the microphone. I got up and walked toward the principal, my face red from embarrassment. I smiled at her, took my certificate, and walked back to my seat.
After the ceremony, we all went back to our classroom. I got all my things and hugged everyone in the classroom. Taking one last look at everybody, I headed out the door and out of the school.
