Notable Alaska School Library Sites

Here you will find links to web sites of school libraries around the state of Alaska. You can browse through the stacks, meet their librarians, and read about the many great programs in use by teachers and librarians at public schools helping to get kids excited about reading. If you would like to see your school's library Web site on our list, contact us.

Elementary Schools:

Alpenglow Elementary School
Visit this library site to read about Alpenglow school programs such as the Library Club, Young Reader's Choice, and Mysteries of the Deep. Also, learn about the Caldecott and Newbery book awards. This site also features some great links to search engines and other libraries.

Arctic Light Elementary, Fort Wainwright
Meet the Artic Light Elementary School librarian, learn about the resources the library has to offer, and find links to search engines and other informational sites, such as how to cite copyright information in a bibliography and more on this school site.

Chester Valley Elementary School
Click here to read book reports written by Chester Valley fourth graders! Read about library programs at Chester Valley, such as Be A Reading Kid (BARK), Young Reader's Choice, Accelerated Reader, and Battle of the Books. This site features links to fun projects, such as origami, knot tying, puzzles, and pop-up cards.

Chugach Optional Elementary School
See what's happening in the library at Chugach Optional Elementary School, including their summer reading list, information about Net Day and their new bookplates. This site also features library links to the Library of Congress and SLED.

Denali Montessori School
Click here to learn about Denali Montessori's Johnny Appleseed Reader's Club. Also, read what programs the school library offers to each grade level or learn about the library's many collections. This site is also useful when conducting research, as it features links to several search engines.

Ella B. Vernetti School, Koyukuk
Serving students from kindergarten through the tenth grade, the Ella B. Vernetti School is located in Koyukuk, Alaska. The school's Web page does not specifically address the school library, but we include it here because it offers lots of stories about what it's like to live in the Koyukon Athabaskan village of Koyukuk. Visit this site to learn more about the community-school projects Ella B. Vernetti students participated in during the years 1993-1998. View many student stories and drawings (many made by students right on their computers!) as you learn more about subsistence fishing and hunting, dog-mushing, and the stories Koyukon children are told by their elders.

Finger Lake Elementary School, between Palmer and Wasilla
Includes links to search engines, educational sites listed by subject, teacher resources, and student resources, such as on-line dictionaries and encyclopedias.

Harbor View Elementary School Library Media Center, Juneau
Take a photo tour of the library, and read about what the library has to offer. The site boasts great summer reading lists for kids of all ages.

North Pole Elementary School, North Pole
This site will help you discover where exactly North Pole, Alaska is. You can also meet the North Pole Elementary School librarian, learn about her hobbies and what she likes to read, and find helpful links to other resources.

Sherrod Elementary School , Palmer
Visit this site to read book reviews written by third, fourth, and fifth graders. You may also link to the electronic database, read about the library volunteers, and find out about Battle of the Books.

Snowshoe Elementary School , Wasilla
Here you will find lists of the favorite books of students from each grade level. The site also provides links to search engines, notable library and reading sites for children, and information about Battle of the Books.

Two Rivers Elementary School, Two Rivers
This small site introduces the library at Two Rivers Elementary School.

Middle Schools:

Ben Eielson Jr./Sr. High school, Eielson Air Force Base, AK
Check out Eielson's site to find out what books have recently been added to the library's collection, read about the latest reading contests and events, take a virtual tour of the library, meet the librarians, and access many on-line magazines.

Colony Middle School, Wasilla
This Web site is full of links! There are links to helpful educational sites, grouped by academic subject (history, science, math, etc.), as well as also homework-help Web sites, reference sites for teachers, and search engines.

Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School, Juneau
Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School doesn't have a library site, but what it does have is a great description of what it calls Literature Circles. Forming a literature circle is a great way to read a book and learn about it with your friends through discussion. Goldenview Middle School, Anchorage
Goldenview Middle School's library site offers links to information about the state of Alaska, as well as search engines and research tools.

Gruening Middle School, Anchorage
The Gruening Middle School library site directs students how to create a bibliography. It also links to sites of all kinds, categorized and listed by subject.

Mirror Lake Middle School, Chugiak
See what Web sites students at Mirror Lake Middle School are using! This library Web page offers links to various research tools and sites, categorized by subject area and recommended by the Mirror Lake Middle School students.

Tanana Middle School, Fairbanks
Visit this site to learn all about the Tanana Middle School library and to find links to local, state, and national resources.

Juneau-Douglas High School, Juneau
Travel to Juneau-Douglas' Library site and meet their school librarians, and find links to informative Web sites such as the American Library Association, The Alaska State Legislature, the College Board, Homework Central, and more.

North Pole High School , North Pole
