Flat Stanley and I had a very lazy Sunday, so we’ll have a busy Monday but I like one lazy weekend day...

We bundled newspapers, magazines, and catalogs for recycling. The only things recycled in the Fairbanks North Star Borough are paper and aluminum cans. The paper goes to Eielson Air Force Base, which is about 25 miles from my house, where it is “pelletized” and burned as heating fuel for buildings on the base. So, now there are 140 less tons of paper going into our landfill, and our landfill will probably last seven years longer than we thought it would.
A few weeks ago, a lady came into the library looking for a recipe for “Dutch Babies” that she saw in an old Sunset Magazine. I found the recipe for her (on the Internet), and it looked so good that I made a copy of the recipe for me, too. Dutch Babies are a German pancake that is baked in the oven instead of being cooked in a frying pan. It was pretty good, but not as good as the ones I used to get at the Walker Brothers Pancake House restaurants in the Chicago area.

Stanley was too busy reading The Travels of Paperman, a homemade book of Paperman’s visit to Alaska. Paperman was made by two boys about your age and sent to Alaska with the boys’ aunt. The aunt works for a publishing company, so she had fun putting pictures and the story of Paperman’s trip into souvenir books for her nephews and for some of the people she visited in Alaska. Stanley enjoyed reading about another paper person’s adventures.
Tonight we watched the X Files, which is one of the few TV shows I watch. There were strange bugs crawling around in tonight’s X Files, but Stanley was more interested in the one fly that showed up inside my house today. I think he liked the way my cats tried to catch the fly. It was funny watching three cats chase after one little fly... What I liked is that if it’s warm enough for a fly to show up, it must mean that spring is coming!
