Old Harbor Books was opened in 1976 by a group of devoted book lovers, most of whom are still serving on the board.  Old Harbor is a general book store specializing in Alaskana, Native American and Alaska Native, children's books, ecology, travel, natural history, philosophy, and, of course, nautical books. We carry regional topographic maps and nautical charts.  We have a unique selection of greeting cards.  We gladly fill special orders and out-of-print orders.  We can also order e-books for many e-book readers.  We sell tickets to most community activities.  Old Harbor Books is an independent bookstore that takes the term "independent" seriously.  We make it a point to get involved in community issues, even controversial environmental, anti-war and peace issues.
