Noel Wien made the first commercial flight

UAF-1969-95-535
Noel Wien made the first commercial flight from Fairbanks to Nome in the Dutch Fokker FIII in June 1925. He was commissioned to fly Norman Stines, an engineer from Boston, along with Stines’ two secretaries, to Nome. After a minor crash in Ruby broke the Fokker’s propeller, Stines elected to complete his journey to Nome by boat. Although Wien stayed and waited for a new propeller, he still beat Stines and party to Nome. Archives, University of Alaska Fairbanks.
