Years after this July 1924 photo was taken, Noel Wien sent a copy to his friend Bob Bartlett. He writes on the back, “From left: James Rodebaugh, owner of the two planes. Eddie Hudson, Fairbanks born son, taking flying lessons and pilot Noel Wien. These two Hisso Standards were the only airplanes doing commercial air travel flying in the summers of 1924 and 1925 in the whole territory. In 1926 flying was started in Anchorage and other towns. These planes are 'Gates Day Standards' used in first world war for training using the famous Curtiss 0 x 5-90 hp engines as power. Later on in the States after the war for pass[enger] & stunt flying were converted from 0 x 5 to Wright built French design Hispano Susza (sic) 150 hp, which was a better engine and gave the Standard much higher performance."
