Ralph, the eldest Wien brother

AMRC-b85-27-1849
Ralph, the eldest Wien brother, left Minnesota and came to Alaska in 1925 upon Noel’s urging. Together they formed Wien Alaska Airways in 1927 and Ralph soloed in 1928. Tragically, he died flying while in the Arctic in 1930. The airport in Kotzebue is named in his honor. This picture taken of Ralph was taken by Noel.
