AMRC-b85-27-701
Fairbanks mayor Dr. F. Dela Vergne hands pilot Noel Wien a letter for delivery as he prepares to undertake the first commercial flight to Nome. The Fokker monoplane left Fairbanks on June 4, 1925, and made the flight in seven hours and 40 minutes, arriving June 5. The cost of that first charter was $1,500, according to notes on the reverse of the photograph. Dela Vergne was city mayor from 1925-1931. Alaska Museum of History and Art, Library and Archives.
