The steamer SS Farallon struck Black Reef in Alaska's Cook Inlet

AMRC-b71-91-40
The steamer SS Farallon struck Black Reef in Alaska’s Cook Inlet in January 1910. There were no fatalities, as all on board were evacuated before she sank. The passengers and crew were saved from drowning and made it to a nearby island, where they waited in the harsh winter temperatures for a month before they were rescued. Pictured are survivors gathering supplies off the ship before she sank. Anchorage Museum of History and Art, Library and Archives.
