Nome winter scene

Snow was piled high in this Nome winter scene by Otto Goetz. Inaccessible by boat and 675 miles from the train depot in Nenana, Nome was cut off from the world when the diphtheria epidemic hit in January 1925. Archives, University of Alaska Fairbanks
