Senator Gruening congratulates the William Randolph Hearst Scholars from Alaska. Loren Leman (left) of Ninilchik would grow up to become lieutenant governor in Frank Murkowski’s administration from 2002-2006. The other recipient was Tom Anderson of Anchorage. The young men spent at day on Capitol Hill, having lunch with Senator Gruening, visiting his office, and watching the Senate in session. Archives, University of Alaska Fairbanks
