Mount McKinley National Park train station to the Savage River Tent Camp by pack train

AMRC-b64-1-323

Tourists would travel the 12 miles from the Mount McKinley National Park train station to the Savage River Tent Camp by pack train. Pictured are the packhorses transporting people and supplies to the camp in 1923, the camp's first season. Before the Alaska Railroad Hotel was built in 1939, the camp offered the only accommodations in the park. Anchorage Museum of History and Art, Library and Archives.
