Photograph of farm equipment on an experimental farm in Rampart, Alaska. Narrative in photo album reads: "All scenes on the U. S. Experimental Station. Main objective was to develop a wheat which would ripen hard enough to mill into flour." "I helped seed and plant on the farm one season. The most interesting was when Mr. Gasser had me plant very carefully, six kernels of wheat, all there were of it in the world. Wheat from all colder countries in the world were cross-bred. Pollen from male head was put on head of another kind female then enclosed with tissue paper." Archives, University of Alaska Fairbanks. For more information about this image click here. |
