Monument to Pedro

Italian immigrant Felix Pedro was prospecting in a stream near what is now the Steese Highway when he made his famous 1902 gold discovery. A stone monument remembering Pedro stands off the Steese Highway at Mile 16.5. This image is dated September 4, 1952. Archives, University of Alaska Fairbanks.
