The Bear arrives at Valdez on Sept. 26, 1908, with Japanese seal poachers. Among the fleet's many duties, the ships of the Revenue Cutter Service enforced maritime law in Alaska's coastal waters and the Bering Strait. Archives, University of Alaska Fairbanks.
