Amazing Trip Through the Water Cycle
By Jackson Crockett
Genre: Fiction Level: Elementary K-3
Category: UAA/ADN Creative Writing Contest

Hi, I'm Zane the raindrop. I live in a place called Watertown. The houses are built out of bubbles. Pthhhooow I just turned into a cloud!

Haha just kidding I didn't turn into a cloud. I'm in a cloud! I'm feeling pretty heavy. I better put on a parachute. Around me I hear a billion other clicks of other raindrops putting on their parachutes. Time for jumping out of this cloud!

I'm nervous because I've never jumped out of a cloud before. But all the other raindrops are with me. I jump. It feels cold and fast as I land in a small lake near the coast of Africa. There's a bunch of lions and giraffes and elephants. Maybe I'll be a drink!

Thwack, thwack. I'm raining so hard that I'm boincing off the lake. I pull out a pair of binoculars from my parachute and look around. It's a grassland. But now the sun is turning the lake into a hot tub! Wait! I'm not touching the lake anymore! Plus, I can't see myself! What is happening?!

Man, it's like I went from a hot tub to a snowstorm! I fly through the air like superman it's getting colder and colder as I go up. Finally I arrive at Watertown. All my friends are happy to see me. Then I felt my body getting heavier and heavier. Aw not again!
