Aliens in the Dark
By Coltyn Kilchrist
Genre: Fiction Level: Elementary 4-6
Category: UAA/ADN Creative Writing Contest

One day I thought it would be cool to go to the moon. So, I went to the nearest rocket launching place, but it cost $2,000! I didn't wait for money to fall out of the sky and went back home to get my sled. After I got my sled and some other stuff, I went to the nearest tallest sledding hill. When I got there, I noticed that there was not a ramp. This would be a problem, so I built one and went to the top of the sledding hill.  When I got to the top, I put my hands on the steering wheel I attached to the sled and got in.  I was starting to go fast and swerved towards the ramp and went off.

I went so high and almost got to the atmosphere. Thankfully I had spare gear on. I was still going fast because of the wings I attached, but I was starting to slow down. I turned on the thrusters I attached and went faster. It got darker and darker and I reached the dark side of the moon.

I was ready to explore, when I heard a noise. I saw something move and followed it. I soon came upon a village. I realized that it wasn't just any village, it was an alien village!  Some of them saw me and ran towards my sled. When I saw them, they were looking at some of the stuff in my sled. I jumped at them, but they got out of the way at the last moment. I landed in the sled and it pushed forward, and I realized they set a trap.  They had moved my sled towards a crater that had a ramp in it. My sled went off the ramp and sent me far into the sky.

On my way home I thought about the aliens I just saw. They were green, small, and with a little antenna on the top of their head. There was a lot of them. I was almost home when a meteor almost hit me. And the meteor had more aliens on it. I wonder where it was going and came from. I finally arrived home and was so tired. What a day I had. I can't believe what I had seen.
