A Cry for Help
By Edward Washington II

Gangs
Everyone is aware of gang violence in Mountain View, but just how aware are you? Mountain View is predominantly Crip and this is the banner of a local Crip gang. All over Anchorage there are Bloods, Crips, Soulja Crew, and Folk. Gang violence is a rising problem in Mountain View and Anchorage.

The only positive thing about gangs is that they give youth a place to belong, but at what cost? People around Alaska are in denial about just how bad the gang problem is. Being in a gang is an infectious fad followed by youth who have no one else. Society turns their heads too quickly and too often. What do gangs have but schools don't? Acceptance; we need to find a way to let kids know that it's okay to be themselves.
