Ice Climbing
By Alexis Penny Ospina-Wicks
Genre: Poetry Level: Elementary K-3
Year: 2005 Category: Bell Benton Memorial Poetry Award

The way the ice shines
As my pickax pierces the wall
So close to my face
I feel as if it's talking to me.
Even though I want to give up
It says to me, "Keep going, keep
going."
My cleats dig deep
I feel one with the ice, with
nature.
