My Dragon
By Aleah Kennedy
Genre: Poetry Level: Elementary 4-6
Year: 2006 Category: Margaret Mielke Memorial Poetry Award

My dragon is powerful
Breathing fire while he flies
In the soft moonrise
On a cold winter's night.

His scales glow like the sun.

He glides over my house
The day is breaking land
My dragon's energy
is fading fast.

His strong, sturdy wings
grow heavy,
His great head droops.
I let my dragon sleep
While I go to school?
