Crayons
By Bradley Schaefer
Genre: Poetry Level: Elementary 4-6
Year: 2004 Category: Margaret Mielke Memorial Poetry Award

This box contains a marinade
of yellow fettucini,
a sprinkle of red pepper,
a dash of vivid violet,
an essence of pure green mint,
a splash of organic orange.

It has a scar of black
a nuclear destruction of blue,
a pattern of dark ash,
a bomb of sacred teal,
a rash of scared pink.

This box contains
the neutral sienna
and a note of pure smoke.
