How to Be the Trees
By Kelsey Saakvitne
Genre: Poetry Level: Elementary 4-6
Year: 2003 Category: Margaret Mielke Memorial Poetry Award

To be the trees
You have to have long, bony arms.
You have to whine and sigh
All night long.
You have to claw
and bite the moon,
As if trying to bring it down,
And you have to slowly
dance in the wind.
