If You're Not From My Big Family...
By Eviqsiq Sears
Genre: Non-fiction Level: Elementary 4-6
Year: 2004 Category: UAA/ADN Creative Writing Contest

If you're not from my big family then you don't know little brothers and sisters crying. Oh, the headaches I get everyday when I have to live with them.

If you're not from my big family you don't know the joy of having someone to play with, someone to pick on, and someone to tell on. It's a relief to have someone right there to play with because you don't have to go far to find a friend. It is easy to pick on someone younger than me, but it is scary when my mom scolds me. I like to tell on the older ones because they get in trouble too.

If you're not from my big family then you don't know the little space you would have. People walking around bumping and yelling at you, "Get out of the way!" Everybody is doing something.

If you're not from my big family then you don't know togetherness.

Having Christmas, Whaling Feasts and Thanksgiving together makes us a closer family. You don't know how it feels when you lose someone in a big family. You don't know the pain when you feel a hole in your heart.

If you're not from my big family then you don't know picnics. Riding to the beach, gathering wood for the fire, and making hot dogs before the marshmallows. We wish to have the marshmallows first, so we can get full before having hot dogs.

If you're not from my big family then you don't know me. Loving everyone in my family even though they do something they're not supposed to. Even if they eat my chips, or make me mad, I will still love them because they are my family.
