A Thunderstorm
By Miranda Snyder
Genre: Poetry Level: High School 10-12
Year: 2002 Category: UAA/ADN Creative Writing Contest

Lightning is a cry for freedom
Thunder is a wailing child
Rain pours out a desperate longing
Sorrow, pain,
A thunderstorm

Lightning sounds a shout for joy
An exclamation, thunder calls
Running, dancing in the rain
True happiness,
A thunderstorm

Lightning blazes, symbols clash
Thunder pounds the drummer's beat
Rain the rhythm of the music
Tearful songs,
A thunderstorm

The blackest heart, a lightning flash
Thunder is an anger deep
Rain beats out a seething fury
Hatred is,
A thunderstorm

Lightning dawns a realization
Feelings strong as thunderclaps
Rain pours down, fear of rejection
Hidden love,
A thunderstorm
